PS5 Controller Blinking Blue: How to Fix It
A flashing light alone does not identify a fault. If your DualSense flashes but will not control the PS5, start by pairing it with a USB data cable.

Why is the controller flashing?
During wireless pairing, the DualSense light bar flashes. Persistent flashing with no response from the PS5 is a connection symptom, not proof of a dead battery or a broken controller. This guide covers a standard DualSense that will not connect; it does not diagnose every light pattern.
1. Pair with a cable that carries data
Charging and pairing are different jobs. A cable can supply power without providing a working data connection. Sony specifies a charge-and-sync or charge-and-data cable.
- Turn the PS5 on using the console’s power button.
- Connect the controller directly to a USB port on the console, without a hub. Use the supplied cable or a known-working USB data cable.
- Press the PS button. If it connects, disconnect the cable and check whether buttons still respond.
- If it does not connect, try another suitable cable and another console USB port. Change one thing at a time.
2. Reset the controller
If a working data cable does not help, use Sony’s controller reset procedure. This is a controller reset, not a PS5 factory reset.
- Turn the PS5 off and unplug the controller’s USB cable.
- Locate the small reset hole on the back near the Sony logo.
- Gently press the recessed button with a suitable pin for at least five seconds. Do not force the tool into another opening.
- Reconnect to the PS5 with the supplied USB cable and press the PS button.
3. Check software after reconnecting
If you regain control, install available PS5 system and DualSense device software updates through the console’s supported update prompts. Do not disconnect a controller during an update.
- Use another working controller if necessary to access the console.
- Follow Sony’s linked support instructions for the software version shown on your PS5.
- Test wireless use again after updates finish.
